With an increasing number of Chinese water conservancy and hydropower enterprises going abroad to participate in international competition, people are becoming more and more aware of the importance of the English literature of water conservancy and hydro-power (ELWCHP) translation with its increasing demand. The English literature of water conservancy and hydro-power (ELWCHP) features in tight structure, accurate concept and strong logic and owns its distinctive characteristic in vocabulary, sentence structure and language expression. Thus, it not only requires translators to get an accurate understanding of the original text and its characteristics and to apply useful translation strategies, but also requires them to be well equipped with the specialized knowledge as well as Chinese language competence. The ELWCHP translation report is an analysis of “the History of Large Federal Dams: Planning, Design, and Construction” with special reference to the examples in Boulder Canyon Project Chapter (12,000 words in total). First, the author sets up the translation project and procedures; second, introduces the characteristics of the ELWCHP mainly focusing on vocabulary and sentence structure; third, analyses problems occurred in the translation practice and indicates that the problems lie in inappropriate choice of the vocabulary mea
