AbstractShen’aoBayinthetownofShen’aoisoneofmarineculturebasesintheeastofGuangdongprovince.Inrecentyears,itsmarinecultureindustrycontinuallygrows.FromculturingthebayfishandshellfishmainlytodevelopingGracilarialemaneiformisculturingalone,shellfishculturingalone,andalgaeandshellfishculturingtogether,sothearea,density,andvarietiesincreasegradually.Withsomepressureexisting,Shen’aoBayhasappearedthewaterqualityandtransparencydecline,seriousinsectpest,rottenalgae,aquacultureproductiondecrease,andsoon.Therefore,understandingoftheecologicalhealthstatusishelpfultoconductthehealthydevelopmentofmarineculture.InordertounderstandthehealthstateinShen’aoBay,wesurveyallkindsofaquacultureregions,andchoosethenearbyecosystemwhichisn’talmostdisturbedbypeopletomakeacomparison.Furthermore,wemakeaquantitativeandintegratedassessmentaboutShen’aoBay,inordertounderstandtheoverallhealthstatusanditsproblems.Inthispaper,theresearchcontentsandresearchachievementsincludethefollowingaspects.Therearetheresultsofthesurveyandstudyfrom2011to2012.InMay2011(summer),August(fall),November(winter),andinFebruary2012(spring),wesurveyedandmonitoredShen’aoBayandthereferencearearespectively.Themainecologicalfactorsincludehydrologicalindicator,waterqualityindicators,biologicalindicators,andheavymetalsofsedimentelements.Theresultsshowthetemperature,DO,andpHofthetwoareasarealmostsimilar,butthesalinityofreferenceareaishigherthanShen’aoBay.Exceptforsomedifferencesinthespring,DIN,DIP,TN,TP,andCODofShen’aoBayinotherseasonsarehigher.Comparedwiththereferencearea,theannualaveragecontentofchlorophyllaishigh,andthedifferenceisintheautumnandwinter,theothertwoseasonsissimilar.ThewaterofShen’aoBayinwinterappearsslighteutrophicationandorganiccontamination,buttheotherseasons’waterandtotalwaterqualityisverygood.Thetotalspeciesandannualaveragediversityindexofphytoplanktonarelowerthanreferencearea,butitsevennessindexandcellsinthetotalnumberarehigher.Theoverallevaluationofthephytoplanktoncommunitiesintwoareasiswell.Thealgaediversity,c
