AbstractAsoneofthemostessentialpartofmarinepowersystems,dieselengine’sstatusisrelatedtothesecurityandstabilityoftheshipdirectly.Asafeandreliableintakeandexhaustsystemsistheimportantguarantyofengine’ssecurity.Ontheotherhand,valvesareoneofthemostcriticalpartsoftheintakeandexhaustsystem.Engine’svalvesarenotonlyexposedtometaloxidesandgaswithhightemperatureandhighpressure,whichgeneratedbycombustion,butalsobearthealternatingstresscausedbystrickingwithvalveseats.Asaresult,engine’svalvesbecameoneofthemostpronetofailureparts.Ifthevalvesleakagehappen,itwilldecreasecylinderpressureandpowerofengine,increasefuelconsumption.Moreseriously,itcanleadtodamagingofturbocharger.Inthispaper,theacousticemissiontechnologyisusedtodiagnosevalvesleakagefailureofmedium-speedmarinedieselengine.Themechanismandcharacteristicsofacousticemissionsignalareresearchedwiththemethodsoftheoreticalandexperimentalresearch.Itshowsthatthevalveleakagefaultcanbedetectedtimelywithanalyzingtheacousticemissionsignals.Thisresearchhastheoreticalandapplicationsignificance.Themaincontentsareasfollows:ThecylinderheadmodelofDaihstsu6DK20engineisestablished,thetransientexcitationcausedbygaswhentheexhaustvalveisnormalanddefectiveiscalculated,withCFDsoftware—FLUENT.Withthehelpoffluid-structureinteractioncalculationtechnology,theaccouticemissionsignalswhenthevalveunderdifferentstatusiscalculatedwithANSYSsoftware.TheresultsshowthatvalveleakagewillcauseanincreaseofthesignalpeakandRMS,andthemoreseriousoftheleakage,thegreatermagnitudeofthechange.AtestbenchwithDaihstsu6DK20engineisbuiltandtheexhaustvalveisdemagedartificiallywithdifferentdegreetosimulatevalveleakage.Acousticemissionsignalsofthecylinderheadarecollectedwhentheexhaustvalveunderdifferentstates,aswellasnon-burningstate.Severaleffectivecharacteristicparametersareextractited.Itshowsthattheaccouticemissionsignalbeeween25?CAand80?CA(CrankAngle)aftercombustionTDCissensitivetovalveleakage,IItheamplitudeandenergyofthispartsignalswillincreasewhenexhaustvalveleak;Theenergyinlo
