The security of power system directly influences the development of nation and the life of people. The damage of the power system will cause serious disasters and economic losses. In view of the high vulnerability of electrical installations under earthquake and less research on the seismic behavior of power facility, this study mainly focus on the applicability of the seismic design code on the electrical installations. In order to make the code guide engineering design better. Improve the seismic resistance of electrical installations, and try to reduce the damage of the power system and the loss by earthquake. The main works are listed as follows: （1）The shake table tests of insulator and arrester which is braced by two different support are conduct. The testing results indicate that the arrester is higher and heavier than the insulator, so the seismic resistance of arrester is worse than the one of insulator. The insulator should use Φ250mm×6mm circular steel tubular support. At high earthquake intensity region, the arrester should use Φ300mm×6mm circular steel tubular support. The mean dynamic magnification fact measured by the test is 1.7, which is greater than the specified value in “Code for design of seismic of electrical installations”（GB50260-96）. The specified value in the code should be update, inorder to make larger safety reserves for the installations. （2）Numerical analysis on the seismic behavior of the of typical structure of power transmission installations is conducted, by using the finite element analysis modeling with ANSYS.
