FabricationofCarbonSupportedPreciousMetalCompositeMaterialsandTheirApplicationinSmallOrganicMoleculesElectrocatalyticOxidationAbstractDuetoincreasingenergydemandsandlimitedfossilfuelreservesaswellasenvironmentpollutioncausedbytraditionalfuelconsuming,cleanandsustainableenergybecomesmoreandmoreconcerned.Fromthisprospect,manyeffortshavebeendirectedtowardthefuelcellspoweredbysmallorganicmolecules,suchasformicacidandmethanol.Infuelcells,noblemetallicplatinumisgenerallyusedasananodecatalyst.Asplatinumisexpensiveandscarce,substantialeffortshavebeendedicatedtofurtherimprovingitsperformancethustodecreaseitsutilization.Inthepast,twostrategiesaremainlyfocused:OneistailoringPt-basednanostructures,suchasdevelopingadvancedcompositeanodematerialswithfocusonPt-basedalloyorbinarymetalsaswellassynergisticeffectsbyactivemetalswithsupplements,exploringmorphologicaleffects,especiallyapproachingtomorecatalyticallyactivesites(corners,edges,steps,etc)ormoreactivefacets.Theotherisdevelopingadvancedsupportmaterials,enhancingthedispersionandcatalyticefficiencyofnoblemetalmaterials.Inthisthesis,electrochemicalmethodshavebeenusedtofabricatetheelectrocatalysts.ThemorghologyandcompositionofthecatalystswerecharacterizedbyXRD,SEM,TEM,EDXtechniques.Theelectrooxidationofmethanolandformicacidwerecharacterizedbyelectrochemicalmeasurement,suchascyclicvoltammetry(CV),chronoamperometric(CA),chronopotentiometric(CP)andelectrochemicalimpedancespectroscopy(EIS).Themaincontentsandinnovationsofthisthesisareasfollows:AfacileelectrochemicalapproachisdevelopedtowardssynthesizingPtnanoflowersmodifiedreducedgrapheneoxide(RGO)wrappedcarboncloth(CC)asananode(Pt-nanoflowers/RGO/CCE)forformicacidandmethanolelectro-oxidation.AsrevealedbySEMmeasurements,thecarbonclothiswellwrappedaroundbytheRGO,AbstractFabricationofCarbonSupportedPreciousMetalCompositeMaterialsandTheirApplicationinSmallOrganicMoleculesElectrocatalyticOxidationandtheRGOwrappedcarbonclothservesasanexcellentsupportforelectrochemicallyanchoringPtnanoflowers
