ABSTRACTPollutionflashoverisoneofthekeyissuesaffectingtheexternalinsulationdesignandsafetyoperationoftransmissionlines,andtherehavebeenmanystudiesofflashoverperformanceandmechanismofpollutedinsulatorsinChinaaswellasothercountries.However,becauseofthecomplexityofflashovermechanismandthediversityofweather,geographyandpollutantsinvariousareas,thepollutionflashoveraccidentsstilloccurredcontinuallyandthestudyneedtobeputtedupmore.BasedontheACartificialpollutiontests,thisthesisaimstostudythecombinedeffectofsaltdepositdensityandnon-solubledepositdensityonACpollutionflashovervoltagesandanalyzethedifferenceofACpollutionflashoverperformancesanddischargeprocessesforvarioustypesoftransmissionlineinsulators,aswellas,analyzetheACflashoverperformancesofartificialpollutedinsulatorsathighaltitudesites.Atthesametime,basedonthedischargeprocessofinsulators，theACpollutiondischargemodelisdiscussed.ThestudiesinthethesiswillmaketounderstandtheACpollutionflashoverperformanceandmechanism,aswellas,willcontributetotheWest-to-EastPowerTransmission,South-and-NorthTransactionandNationwideElectricityInterconnectionandwillbeofsignificantreferencedvaluestotheconstructionsandoperationsofEHVandUHVtransmissionlines.BasedontheexistingstudiesinChinaaswellasothercountries,amassofACartificialpollutiontestsofsometypesoftransmissionlineinsulatorshavebeencarriedoutinthelaboratoryandatthehighaltitudesites.TheACpollutionflashoverperformanceandmechanismisanalyzedthroughtheflashoverprocessesgainedbyahighspeedframecameraandthecombinedeffectsofmultifactorsonthepollutionflashovervoltage.Themainconclusionsinthethesisareasfollowing:Underthesamepollutiongrade,thepollutionflashovervoltagegradientsoftheouter-ribtypeinsulatorsarelowerwhiletheeffectivenessofleakagedistancesoftheinsulatorswiththelongridgesarehigher.Theflashovervoltagesofcompositeinsulatorsarehigherbecauseofthehydrophobicityonitsmaterialsurfaces.Comparingtwotypesofnon-solublematerials,kieselguhrandkaolin,thepollutionflashovervoltageofinsulatorspollutedwithkao
