Due to the high cost and wiring inconvenience, traditional way of collecting the water quality parameters through field-bus sensors severely limits the flexibility of water treatment, whereas the use of wireless sensor networks can overcome the defects. This article studied on the characteristics of the wireless sensor networks of water treatment control environment, proposed an improved directed diffusion routing protocol (SEA-DD) according to the characteristics of the network. SEA-DD is a query routing protocol, suitable for water treatment control system in the water quality parameter monitoring, and request and routing information is aggregated into a packet to reduces the cost of routing communication. Each data collection began with the request for data dissemination of information to establish the optimal path, thus ensuring a reliable and efficient routing, and greatly reduces the size of the routing table. In addition, the SEA-DD uses dormant mechanism under negotiation, to help save energy of sensor nodes. The SEA-DD routing protocol was simulated in NS2. Simulation results show that: in the wireless sensor network simulation model, the routing time, the network average packet delay, the stability of network performance of SEA-DD network is much better than AODV network. The route set-up time can be achieved 3ms, whose speed is more than seven times the AODV network, and the network packet loss rate is less than 1% when the data traffic is less than 50Kbps, and with the increase of the routing nodes, network performance is significantly improved, showing the advantages of multi-path routing. The indicators of SEA-DD are well positioned to meet the requirements of the water treatment control system for the performance of wireless sensor networks. Keywords: water p
