They are they key people in accident prevention. Day to day supervisors manage the barriers, which control the hazards They can prevent incidents by setting high personal standards, providing clear work instructions, assigning competent people to do jobs, and motivating people to work safely. Supervisors are not just there to ensure production targets are met! This slide is intended to get into the topic of supervision and encourage the group to talk about who supervises and at a high level what supervision is about. By a supervisor we can mean anyone who is in charge of other people, from a foreman and a front line supervisor up to line managers. (Where managers are the subject, more appropriate examples should be looked for so that they do not see the problems as only being of those front line supervisors who work for them). Presenter notes Before putting up viewgraph, ask the audience who supervises work in their company – you want them to say charge hands, foreman, site supervisor (maybe even superintendents and line managers). Conclusion is a supervisor is anybody who is in charge of one or even a hundred people irrespective of job title. Supervisors are not just those with the word in their job title, they are people who are in charge of others, they are managers, team leaders etc. The basics of what this workshop covers are applicable to all levels of supervision and management.
