万方数据 万方数据 ABSTRACT The thesis consists of three parts, namely, the source text of The One-Trial Learning Controversy and Its Aftermath: Remembering Rock (1957), the Chinese version translated by the author and a report on the translation. The source text is a thesis on Experimental Psychology. It presents the one-trial learning controversy and its aftermath. The source text is a typical informative text, and the translation of such a text is so significant for Chinese psychologists. After describing the three stages of translation, including the features of each stage and the respective roles they play in making a good translation, the report focuses on analyzing the techniques employed in translating the source text into Chinese with examples. The experience gained from translating The One-Trial Learning Controversy and Its Aftermath: Remembering Rock (1957) is then summed up. Key Words: source text; translation process; translation techniques 2 第一部分 “一次试验性学习争论及其影响:纪念洛克(1957 年)”原文 The One-Trial Learning Controversy and Its Aftermath: Remembering Rock (1957) HENRY L.ROEDIGER III AND KATHLEEN M.ARNOLD Washington University in St. Louis In 1957 Irvin Rock published an article in the American Journal of Psychology igniting a controversy that dominated the field of verbal learning for the next 8 years before mostly burning out. Rock published 2 paired-associated learning experiments in which he compared performance of a control group that learned a constant list of pairs to the criterion of one perfect trial with an experimental group in which forgotten pairs on each trial were dropped and replaced on the next trial with new pairs. That is, on each trial for experimental subjects, pairs that were correctly recalled were maintained in the next trial, whereas pairs that were not recalled were dropped and replaced randomly with new pairs from a large pool. Surprisingly, Rock found that the 2 groups took the same number of trials to reach criterion. He concluded that learn
