Objective To explore the pathogenesis of avasc lar necrosis of femoral head ( ANFH) in order to search for an effective method for clinical treatment Methods 24 rabbits w ere divided into two gro ps of the experimental models and controls. ANFH models were prod ced by int ram sc lar injection of large dosage of steroid to rabbits in 8 weeks period. From the 4t h, 8th, 12th week after prod ction of models, 2 rabbits of model gro p and 2 rabbits of control gro p were sacrificed to observe the str ct re of femoral head.The contents of nitric oxide ( NO) , tiss etype plasminogen activator(tPA) , plasminogen activator in hibitor (PAI) in plasma of the 4 rabbits of the tow gro ps w ere determined at the same time. Results Com pared with control gro p, the rabbits of model gro p exhibited many changes s ch as osteoporosis of femoral head, the presence of more bone lac na and fat cell, the rarely seen and broken thinner trabec lae. Compared w ith control gro p, the contents of NO and tPA in plasma of the model rabbits decreased obvio sly, b t the contents of the PAI increased obvio sly. Conclusion T he steroidind ced ANFH might be related to the low er level of NO and the descent of fibrinolytic activity. Key words!
