And the functions of the translation works in the social context were also interpreted. The thesis introduced the context of The Ladies’ Journal (1915-1919) firstly, and the number of Anglo-Saxon and American translation works in The Ladies’ Journal (1915-1919) was calculated and analyzed. Then the cultural background and translation viewpoints about the main operators, editors, and translators were explored. Literature review, assumptions, methodology, contributions, and limitations, as well as the research conditions and the availability of this thesis were also analyzed in detail. As a typical women’s magazine, The Ladies’Journal (1915-1919) constructed various women’s images. In this thesis, cultural environment in and out of TheLadies’Journal (1915-1919), and the influences of the manipulation on the construction of women’s images were analyzed. Typical women’s images appeared in Anglo-Saxon and American works of The Ladies’ Journal (1915-1919) were concluded, with the analyses from the aspects of the appearances, speeches, and psychological descriptions. Chinese and English examples were analyzed with detailed contrastive analysis. Lefevere’s Postcolonial Theories were adopted to analyze the factors in and out of The Ladies’Journal (1915-1919). Through the analyses, the expectation and description of editors and translators to the women’s appearances can be concluded. The close attention paid to the dialogues, monologues, psychological descriptions, and gender differences of women characters in Anglo-Saxon and American translation works of The Ladies’ Journal (1915-1919) can show the main tendency and the rewritings of translators and editors to the construction of women’s images in Anglo-Saxon and American translation works of TheLadies’Journal(1915-1919).
