Department of Cardiology, Taizhou Central Hospi tal, Zhejiang 318000, China 　　[Abstract] Objective The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic valueof high sensitivity C_reactive protein (hsCRP) for diffuse coronary artery lesi ons in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsA total of 296 patients with coron ary artery disease(CAD) confirmed by angiography were divided into 5 groups base d upon coronary angiographic findings and with or without diabetes: 92 patientshad focal coronary artery lesions without diabetic(group I), 78 patients had dif fuse coronary artery lesions without diabetes(group II), 30 patients had diabete s but not CAD (group III), 32 diabetic patients with focal coronary artery lesio ns (group IV); and 64 diabetic patients with diffuse coronary artery lesions (gr oup V) , Serum levels of hsCRP, TNF_α and IL_6 were measured in all subjects.Results Serum hsCRP level was significantly higher(p0.01) in group Vthan tha t in other four groups(14.65±8.74 vs. 7.78±5.91,9.16±8.13,7.47±4.62,10.5 8±7.43 mg/L), and Serum hsCRP level in group IV was significantly (p0.05) hig her than that in group I and group III. IL_6 level was significantly (p0.05) hi gher that in group V than in group II and group III. The level of TNF_α in grou p IV was significantly (p0.05) higher than that in group II and group III. Thelevels of IL_6 in group IV and TNF_α in group V were higher than those in groupI, II and III, but there was no significantly difference. There was no signific antly difference for the levels of hsCRP, IL_6 and TNF_α between group I and gr oup II. hsCRP was positive correlation with diffuse coronary artery lesions anddiabetic. ConclusionsIncreased serum hsCRP level in patients with type 2
