ABSTRACT The widespread application of information technology is profoundly changing the peoples life, study and work. It not only has a great impact on informationization of industry in China, but also puts forward a new challenge to education reform and talent training. As an important part of education, the higher vocational colleges cultivate tens of thousands of the talents with high skills for production, construction, management and service industry. So more attention should be paid to informationization of higher vocational college. To make the informationization of higher vocational college effective in teaching and learning, cultivation of educational technology competence is pivotal. At present, the cultivation of educational technology competence of teacher in higher vocational colleges is still in the initial stage. In order to improve the consciousness of cultivation of educational technology competence ,to understand connotation of educational technology competence correctly and to improve the educational technology competence of teachers in higher vocational college effectively, under the guidance of theories such as the education information ecology theory, the connotation of educational technology competence with the consideration of characteristic of practice in higher vocational college has been expounded using methods of literature research, questionnaire survey, interviews and other research methods; then the current situation of educational technology competence of teachers and training in three higher vocational colleges in Taizhou in Jiangsu Province has been analysed ;then advantages and problems of educational technology competence and trainings of teachers in higher vocational colleges have been analysed from three aspects of theory and the concept , teaching practice and environment and support ; finally the corresponding strategy for promoting educational technology competence of teachers and training in higher vocational college has
