And to obtain the elder?s health requirement on TCM-PTD, discuss on the counter measures in strengthening the ability of self diagnosis diseases of the elders. Methods: We collected nearly 10 years data on clinical TCM-PTD, consulted eight experts (including three TCM experts, four aged-nursing experts and one statistical expert). To take all these factors into consideration, a questionnaire was designed. There were 184 valid questionnaires for reference. We compiled the data, then analyzed it by the statistical software SPSS17.0. Results: (1) There were 184 effective questionnaires among a total of 200 copies. In the investigation, 67 men (36.3%) and 117women (63.6%) were participated. The average age of those polled was 81.86 years. (2) The health cognitive total score of the old people about TCM-PTD was12.55±2.24 （9.34±2.18）, the understanding of the basic concepts of TCM score was 4.96±1.02（3.47±1.13）.
