THE EXPERIMENTAL PLATFORM OF COMPUTER-CONTRORLLED DRESSING FOR ULTRA-PRECISION ROTARY PARTS
ABSTRACT
This paper presents a new dressing technology which transformed on the basis of ordinary grinding machine to make the rotary parts reach ultra-precision. Through the study of the material removal mechanism of micro-powder-grinding-wheel, we can control the amount of dressing and the surface roughness of the workpiece by changing the size and the contact pressure between the workpiece and the grinding wheel. With this new dressing technology, low cost and high efficiency as well as high accuracy. From the research, the use of this new technology can take charge of most grinding and polishing. The contents of this paper include:
Research on the material removal mechanism of the micro powder wheel. According to Preston equation and removal mechanism, combined with the removal characteristic of the semi-rigid grinding wheel, a precision grinding mechanism and the main process parameters impacting precision dressing process are received. In addition, a method for calculating material removal rate is provided.
Fabrication of resin-based micro-powder wheel. Two programs are proposed to prepare the mold of a resin-based micro-powder wheel. Then choose a more reasonable structure for the mold. Through experiments, select the appropriate abrasive grit size, bond to produce resin-based micro-powder wheel with a reasonable process.
Set up of the experimental platform for dressing. According to the request of the computer-controlled dressing process of rotary parts to the dressing system, and in order to improve processing efficiency, a new on-site measurement method is proposed. A mechanical structure of the on-site measurement device is designed according to the method above, basing on the dressing system.
Experiments. On the basis of the work above, experiments are conducted to dressing the cylinder of the workpiece (hardness HRC59 ~ 61, material GCr
