PAGE PAGE 10 ABSTRACT Majoram (Origanum Majorana L.)is a kind of aromatic plant belongs to the labiatae , origanum, it is also a perennial herb which essential oil has multiple health effects. Majoram distributes in Europe, North Africa and Asian countries, it was introduced to Shanghai in 2000. The experiment was designed to research the variation of the content of essential oil and chemical compositions in anniversary. The result shows that, the range of the content of the essential oil is 0.048-0.420ml/100g F.W.. The lowest content of essential oil is 0.048ml/100g F.W. was in February, and the highest content of essential oil 0.420 ml/100gF.W. was in August. The essential oil was analized by GC GC-MS to research the chemical compositions of oil. Sorted by the relative content, the chemical compositions whose relative content is more than 1% are: 4-Terpineol, Linalool, γ-Terpinene, α -Terpinene, Sabinene, α-Terpineol, Cis-Sabinene hydrate, β-Caryophyllene, Terpinolene, Diene-1-ol in Bangladesh, Bicyclogermacrene and Myrcene. The relative content of 4-Terpineol is the highest of all, which range from 20.802% to 32.460%, while the relative content of Myrcene is the lowest, which range from 1.099% to 2.023%. the above results for Majoram in Shanghai area provide some reference to the industrial development of Majoram essential oil. The result indicated that the correlation between the average temperature, sampling temperature and average content of essential oil per month took on positive relation, but the average humidity, sampling humidity shows no significant correlation with the average content of essential oil per month. The result of majoram is similar with rosemary which is a kind of plant belongs to Labiatae as well. We also find that the correlation between the average plant height and content of essential oil per month is significant positive. The mechanism need to be studied further.
