三峡大学硕士学位论文 三 峡 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 PAGE VI PAGE VI Abstract Ye Junjian (1914 ～ 1999) was a famous writer, author of children?s literature, translator, and propagandist for external publicity in twentieth-century Chinese history. As an important translator, Ye had put forth a great number of insightful views on translation, and his translation practice as well as translation thoughts have exerted considerable influence on the development of Chinese translation undertakings. However, there is some kind of conscious or unconscious apathy against, and neglect of Ye Junjian, not only in the field of literary criticism but also in the field of translation studies. Based on a wide-ranging collection of first-hand materials and in-depth description, summary and analysis of Ye Junjian?s translation activities, the thesis is intended to find out the key factors that contribute to Ye Junjian?s qualification as an exemplary translator, and make a comprehensive and systematic study of his translation thoughts and practice. It is hoped that this study will be of help to a better understanding of Ye Junjian?s role as a great translator and his contribution to twentieth-century Chinese translation undertakings. The thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter One gives an introduction to the research background and significance, previous research at home and abroad, research objective and methodology, as well as the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents a fairly detailed description of Ye Junjian?s life experience, including his educational background and working experience both at home and abroad. Chapter Three provides a rather comprehensive summary of Ye Junjian?s translation thoughts, including his views on Yan Fu?s three-word criterion, translators? subjectivity, “foreignization”, indirect translation, and the creation of “high-quality translated work”.
