Abstract As one of the three elements of language，vocabulary is the basis of Englìsh learning. One of the main problems the senior high school s阳dents meet with when they leam English is vocabulary learning. Vocabulary teaching is the main method for students to master vocabulary and its importance has already drawn attention of researchers both at home and abroad. New English Curriculum Standards 01Senior High School (here refers to New Standards) issued in 2003 by Education ministry not only requires a larger vocabulary I)f students but also the ability to use it. Vocabulary teaching has changed more or less in some ways since the New Standards came into effect，and every senior high school is positiv e1y explOling eve可 means to improve vocabulary teaching. At present ，a new model of instruction ，known as guided learning plan，is being widely practiced in many senior high schools in China. Guided Learning Plan，a1so known as Leaming Plan Guidance refers to the model in which guided leaming plan is a carrier，guided leaming is an approach that teachers guide students automatic leaming and they 也lfill teaching tasks through their joint effort.ηlìs model has its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore ，in order to better utilize the guided leaming plan to improve English vocahulary teaching and leaming，the author investigates teachers and students 仕om a senior high sc:hool to find out the advantages and disadvantages of this model through teachers and students feedback. Then the author designed a better guided leaming plan in the view of students needs to encourage the students vocabulary leaming. In order to verify its effectiveness ，the author carried out an experiment in 阳ro classes. The result shows that the model of guided leaming plan is better than traditional teaching model. But one more point the researcher wants to make is that when he designs and carries out this model ，he should take a serious attitude. Key words: Senio
