祭 孔 The Ceremony Honoring Confucius 釋奠之禮 釋 奠 “Shi Dien”, the Sacrificial Ceremony, originally, it was a ritual made to dedicate the dead teachers to honor them and respect their teachings. Owing to Confucius’ great contribution to education, he was honored as “Sage Confucius” in Shue Dynasty, and “Shi Dien” ritual became the special term for Confucius Honoring Ceremony. 釋 奠 「釋」有設置之意，「奠」為奠幣、 祭品，乃指在祭典中，陳設音樂、舞 蹈，並且呈獻牲、酒等祭品，以對孔子 表示崇敬之意，原本有四時的固定祭 儀，後來改為春秋二季。太牢，是指古 代祭祀，以牛、羊、豬三牲具備為太 牢，又為祭祀用牛之別名。 Drumming before the Ceremony (3 drum rolls, each comprising 108 beats) 鼓部長：鼖鼓（於未上祭前先發頭鼓、二鼓、三鼓，每鼓一百零八聲） The Ceremony begins.
