The results show that Chìna s agricultural research investment has increased significanùy after its reform initiated in the late 1织泊s. However , overall investment is still ve巧 low. Moreover , most of increase ìn the investment has been ìn the term of com-petitive grants , which has significantly reduced the share of core funding and may have negative affected the long - term strategic plan and research efficìency. 币le great effort is also needed to encourage the private sector to engage in agricul-tural research.
