I. Introduction:This is the teaching design of Unit 11 How was your trip? in Book 2 of Junior School, which is from Go for it, Section A1a — Grammar Focus. The design totally consists of seven parts: teaching aims, key points difficult points, about the students, guiding theories teaching methods, teaching aids, teaching procedures and blackboard design.
II. Teaching aims
1) Knowledge aim: to master the past tense; to understand how to use the past tense correctly; to grasp the vocabulary and sentence pattern.
2) Ability aim: to be able to report what happened in the past.
3) Emotion aim: to foster the students’ ideal and passion of life.
III. Key points and difficult points
1) Key points: A. To understand what is the past tense; B. How to use the past tense.
2) Difficult point: How to report what happened in the past time.
IV. Guiding theories and teaching methods
1) Guiding theories: In order to achieve the teaching aims according to New English Curriculum Standards, the following theories are borrowed: 1) Making the students the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as director; 2) Combining the language structures with the language functions; 3) getting the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.
2)Teaching methods: Task-based Language Teaching; Communicative Approach; Audio Visual Approach; Situational Approach.
V. Teaching aids: multimedia; the blackboard.
VI. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warming up:A review of the school trip in the last week
Good afternoon, boys and girls! How are you today? Last week, we went to Heshan. We had a great time. Yes? Ok, now let’s enjoy the happy time once more. Look, here are the photos.
Purpose: To arouse the students’ interest of the class and curiosity about the past tense.
