Ⅰ. Teaching aims
Knowledge
New words: summer, winter, Europe, sit, mountain, Canada, vacation.
Sentence structures: How’s it going? What are you doing? How’s the weather?
2. Ability: Describe the different kinds of weather and different activities in different areas.
Ⅱ. Important points: Revise the words and sentence structures of greeting, weather and activities correctly. Postcard writing.
Ⅲ. Difficult points: Skills of listening, Reading and writing.
Present progressive tense.
IV. Teaching method: white-board, postcards, pairwork, groupwork, task-based teaching method, situation teaching method.
V.Teaching procedures
Step1 Revision and introduction of new words.
1. Show different places and weather signs to revise the description words: snowy, rainy, windy. Introduce the new nouns: Europe, Canada, Russia. Then ask students give a weather report.
Step2 Warming up.
Ask students to describe the pictures of a, b and c with the 2 questions. ①How is the weather? ②What are the people doing? Ss talk about the weather, activities in pairs.
2.T: When I travel, I like to buy some beautiful postcards. I often write what I see and hear on the postcards and then I mail to my friends. What about you? Do you like sending postcards to your friends? Here are two guys. They are writing the postcards to their friends.
Step 3 Reading.
1. Play the tape the first time, Ss just listen to 2b . Then match each postcard in 2b with the correct picture in 2a. Then finish blanks in 2c. Check answers.
2. Further discussion.
Read the first postcard and choose T or F. ①Su Lin’s uncle is in Canada. Now. ②Su Lin is studying English in Canada now. ③Su Lin is sitting and drinking juice in the morning right now.
Read the second postcard and write down answers on the paper. ①What are Dave and his family doing now? ②Is Dave’s phone working now?③How is the weather in Jane’s family?
