The Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) is study in this paper, BOTDA is a distribution optical fiber sensing technique which based on Brillouin back scattering interaction between an optical pulse and a continuous wave counter propagating in a single-mode fiber. In this method, it can be obtained the probe beam differs from the pump beam by the amount of Brillouin frequency of optical fiber to enable the amplification and high intensity Brillouin scattering signal. BOTDA sensor system equipped with one electro-optic modulator has been studied for measuring distributed strain and temperature, however, its signal analysis duration is too long to use in intrusion detection. In recent years, lots of country put research on BOTDA for these advantages. The paper has focus on BOTDA and given our latest research work progress: Introduced the principle of Brillouin optical fiber sensor and BOTDA measure technique in detail. Examination the fiber temperature and stain sensing performance, and research of coefficient of the fiber temperature and stain. The sensitive of analyzer in distance, temperature and strain resolution cannot satisfy of the recent project, we put on highlight of the influence of these coefficients to the BOTDA measurement, The higher spatial resolution, higher accuracy sensors. For the needs of long-term health monitoring of civil engineering structure, through the numerical calculation of different spatial resolution of Brillouin backscatter spectrum, analyzed and studied measurement error of Brillouin frequency spectrum. As the pulse width increased, the Brillouin linewidth decreased nonlinearly, the Brillouin peak value decreased, and measured error decreased. So by optimizing the design, achieve the best result between the resolution
