Abstract Along with the popularization of mobile terminal devices in public life and the development of the service of Cloud Storage, application raises demand for synchronization of user file between server and local host. Android has been widely used as one of the operating system for mobile terminal devices. Although current android-based remote file browsing and synchronizing software can support the basic browsing and synchronization of remote files, some problems still exist, such as insufficient synchronization methods, poor real-time delivery and lack of support for incremental synchronization. This paper first surveys the data communication procedure of file synchronization by analyzing several common file transfer protocols and the data transmission process of Cloud Storage, and identifies the detail of protocols by capturing network packets. Secondly, the theory of contemporary file synchronization system is discussed, and then a method to obtain file increment based on file checksum and the last-modified time is presented. Next, this paper implements the management of background synchronization flow, the control of task scheduling, and the monitoring on real-time status. The final system supports common file transfer protocols and Cloud Storage, the real-time file synchronization and incremental synchronization, with the GUI implemented using Android Widget.
