42 自学成才的宝石玻璃艺术家
Self Taught Artist Force Behind American Cameo Glass
Erika Celeste

Fifteen years ago Kelsey Murphy was given a book that would change her life
forever. The topic was English 1)Cameo. As she turned the bright, 2)glossy
pages, she could hardly wait to try making Cameo. But when the glass artist
went in search of 3)instructions she couldnt find them anywhere. Finally she
decided to ask some of her co-workers at the 4)Pilgrim Glass Factory in
Ceredo, West Virginia. I brought it to Pilgrim and said, can you do this
5)stuff? They said, oh, sure. No problem. And three years later, after

design, blowers layer one color of glass over another… and another…then
the artists get to work. Youve got every color of glass, every type of
glass has its own personality, its own nature and its all in there and has
to be dealt with as you 8)carve down through the layers, she says.
Each color of glass cools differently and therefore has a different
breaking point. Every time another color layer is added, the vase doubles in
9)fragility. But because Ms. Murphy oversees the entire process, from
melting the sand for the glass to carving the design, she believes her glass
is the 10)sturdiest Cameo ever made.
The artist or one of her 8 assistants etches vines out of a green glass
