， AbstractThe Abstract The lexical organization is one of the key dimensions of lexical competence．However,not many studies have paid attention to the development of the lexical organization，and the research findings are far from conclusive．What’S more，few studies have ever tried to examine how leamers at lower levels develop in L2 mental lexicon．Therefore，the present study aims to explore how Chinese senior high school learners’ develop in lexical organization by employing a word association test with a view to providing implications for vocabulary teaching and acquisition． 60 Chinese senior high school students，20 in each grade，participated in the present study．The elicitation instrument was a guided word association test． Quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data collected revealed the following major findings： 1．For learners at a Senior High School across three years，there is a phonologic-semantic shift concerning the lexical organization． 2．Concerning the development of the specific categories classified as syntagmatic，paradigmatic， encyclopedic， clang-other and no．response，they tend to show an increasing number of uses in syntagmatic and paradigmatic associations and decreasing number of of uses in encyclopedic，clang-other associations and no-response cases，though with fluctuations．Of all the five categories，clang associations take up the greatest number． 3．Results for the inter-relationship between the language proficiency and their lexical organization competence display a moderate but significant correlation． The above findings are discussed from the perspectives of the reorganization of the L2 lexical organization，and reasons for the lack of semantic relations in the L2 mental lexicon．Finally,both theoretical and pedagogical implications are proposed，with some recommendations for Key Words：senior high school students；mental lexicon；lexical organization；vocabulary knowledge 摘 摘 要 词汇组织模式是二语词汇能力的重要维度之一，然而，关注二语 学习者词汇组织模式发展的相关研究不多，且已有研究结论并不一致， 缺乏对较低水
