Step 1 Warming-up
1)T: Hello. How was your weekend? You know last Sunday is a special day, isn’t it? What day is it? Yeah, it’s Mother’s Day. What did you do for your mother?
S1: I went shopping with my mother.
T: What about you?
S2: I flied a kite in the park.
T: How about you?

Purpose: This activity is used to review the phrases learnt in the last unit and foreshadow the following presentation.
Step 2 Presentation
1)T: This weekend I went shopping with Mom. We had a good time. Mom is one of the most important people in our lives. We love our moms very much, right? I love my mom. too. My mom’s birthday is coming next week, and I want to buy something for her as a gift. What should I get her? Can you give me some suggestions? Use these sentences to give suggestions. Now I’ll divide the whole class into two groups----boys’ group and girls’ group. If you stand up and answer the questions, boys can get tennis balls and girls can get bows.
S1: What about a CD?
T: That’s too boring.
S2: How about…?
T: That’s / They’re…

Purpose: This activity is used to create a situation for the Ss to give advice for Mom’s birthday gift. It encourages Ss to use the target language. To divide them in groups works up their passion of learning and using the target language.
2) T: I’m thinking about giving the following things to my mom as a gift. What do you think of them? Show different pictures of different things. Ask Ss to give comments (Write “special”, “personal”, “creative”, “comment” on the Bb)
