The basketball teaching as a part of school education, everyone in the school is the lifelong physical education concept of education, so that students understand basketball knowledge, master the method and skills of basketball, the basketball movement as a lifelong physical training, enhancing health method. At the same time basketball contains rich cultural connotation, to improve the physical and mental health of students, improve students comprehensive quality of great significance. This article focuses on the Jiangsu Province 8 Agricultural Colleges of higher vocational, using literature, expert interviews, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics and logical analysis and so on, taking Jiangsu province 8 agricultural colleges as the study object, conduct a comprehensive and in-depth analysis on the current situation of basketball teaching ,staff construction, extracurricular activities, basketball team and the material conditions in Jiangsu Province higher vocational colleges from the overall, systematical and developmental perspective,designed to improve the theory and practice for the popularity of basketball in vocational colleges reference. Results：1. Jiangsu province 8 Vocational Agricultural Colleges basketball course rate was 100%, the year 72 hours relative to the amount of insufficient; in basketball teaching content, emphasis on pure skill teaching; examination and evaluation is not comprehensive enough, emphasis on summative assessment； higher agricultural colleges basketball teachers gender distribution is not reasonable; basketball teachers formed old, green combination structure, age structure is reasonable; basketball te
