System research on body metaphor with reference to 108 Pieces of Prose Works Abstract Richards takes metaphor as a means of communication among different minds- Later, Since Lakoff and Johnson (1980), metaphor has become more of a tool for mankind to know the world as well as a means to know new things through other things that were already known? In other words, our thinking and actions are all metaphorical. As a result, metaphor is an important tool for us to know about and understand the world. In the primitive time, the primitives relied on their body, to which they are most familiar, in order to recognize and understand the outside world. Human beings not only project their body experience on the external reality but also project their organs9 movements and properties on the movements, changes and properties of the external reality. That\ why there are so many words (nouns, verbs and adjectives) which are not human organs but formed by human organ terms by metaphor. With the formation of Hupsurge of metaphor^ there are a lot of theses on metaphors. However most of domestic research stressed primarily on two aspects: the introduction of overseas research findings and theoretical explorations of metapho匚 While in terms of research perspective, most of them adopted a cognitive approach, and metaphor studies have expanded to other languages. Metaphor as the highlight in literature works has caught many scholars attention, but research on body metaphor is something new, not to mention the analysis of English translation methods of body metaphor in 108 Pieces of Prose Works. This research project on human body metaphor mainly in eludes the following secti ons: part one is an in troducti on to metaphor and body metaphor. Part two illustrates the linguistic form of human body metaphor and the characteristics of its usage? Part three deals with examples of body metaphor excerpted from 108 Pieces of Prose Works.
