LESSON PLAN of U4 Section B (2a-2e)
Aims: To provide students with the opportunities to practice the learned reading skills. Students will also be exposed to new vocabulary items. What is more, students will be encouraged to express their opinions about talent shows in writing after reading the text. The lesson is designed to take an integrated approach to the teaching of reading and writing.
Objectives:
Language Form and Use:
By the end of the lesson, students are expected to be able to
i) develop a larger vocabulary bank;
ii) review and practice reading skill.
Language Skills:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to
i) understand the text;
ii) express their thoughts about talent shows in writing
Emotion:
By the end of the lesson, students should be more interested in talent shows.
Students’ Prior Knowledge:
Students have
i) mastered the reading skills of skimming and scanning quite well;
ii) been familiar with the concept of “talent shows”;
Anticipated Problems and Possible Solutions:
Students may have problems with
i) new words in the text, so the teacher will help with that by presenting new words in the lead-in section;
ii) finding every piece of information to fill out the mind-map in the careful reading part, so the teacher will give some tips.
Procedures:
Warming Up:
Step 1: Song Clip (1 min)
T asks Ss to listen to a song clip “Sweeter than Fiction”, and stand up quickly when the comparative words are mentioned.
Lead- in:
Step 2: Film Clip (4 mins)
T shows a film clip of the performance of Paul Potts from the talent show Britain’s Got Talent.
Step 3: Oral Q A Practice (6 mins)
T asks several Ss “Who’s Got Talent” in the class using sentences structures with superlative forms. After that, T asks Ss to brainstorm about the names of different talent shows.
Reading:
Step 4: Pre-Reading: (2 mins)
T shows Ss a list of new vocabulary in the reading for Ss to understand the meaning. Then the T holds a quick word quiz to help Ss remember the expres
