Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communication, Shanghai 200050, China) Abstract: A novel handoff algorithm named sub-channel combination (SCHC) handoff algorithm used in multi-carrier cellular mobile communication system was proposed. Multi-dimensional Markov chain was used to analyze the perform- ances of SCHC handoff algorithm. Analytical results of the key parameters such as handoff blocking probability were ana- lytically obtained. The analysis shows that the proposed scheme of sub-channel combination improves the handoff perform- ance as compared with the guard channel algorithm. The handoff blocking probability for the bandwidth consuming service is decreased while the other communication quality remains unchanged during the handoff.
