An important reason for the great loss caused by previous earthquakes is the server damage of lifeline engineering systems, affecting the smooth progress of the relief work. Therefore, being properly informed of the future earthquake response of such key preventive B buildings is very important, which has important theoretical significance and practical values. Performance-based seismic theory can be a detailed evaluation of the seismic performance and a comprehensive understanding of the seismic response. So the method will be applied to the research on seismic performance of the thermal power plant main factory building and the main research work includes the following aspects: Several methods based on performance seismic design were summarized. Displacement-based methods are the currently used methods, an overview of the methods are provided in the paper, especially being elaborated on the basic theory of the capacity spectrum method, including the establishment of the capacity spectrum and demand spectrum curve, the reduction of the demand spectrum curve, the relative parameter conversion in ATC-40 methods and spectrum in Chinese Standard, as well as the determination of the performance point. With Finite element analysis software SAP2000, the modal analysis, earthquake response spectrum analysis subjected to unidirectional and bidirectional earthquakes respectively and pushover analysis of a large thermal power plant main factory building were accomplished, focusing on the differences in structural seismic response brought by two w
