The publishing of English textbooks has experienced a complex developing process in the Republic of China, that’s from scratch and moved toward prosperity. Because it is very difficult to collect the English textbooks of senior high schools in that period, so there is a few research on this topic. The paper will study the development of English curriculum standards and the textbooks’ reform of senior high school in the Republic of China based on the collection of English textbooks in the Republic of China. By a basic understanding of the reform on senior school education and English education background, the paper will try to sum up the features of the English textbooks of senior high school in the Republic of China and then put forward suggestions. This paper is divided into six parts. The first part is introduction. This part mainly introduces the proposal of the topic,the purposes of the research, the significance of the research and the methods of the research. The second part is review of the literature. This part introduces the related researches at home and abroad as well as the theoretical basis of the research and make a summary at last. The third part is the English teaching reform of senior high schools in the Republic of China, which analyzes the changes of the English curriculum standard and the background of English education, describe the development of the textbooks. The fourth part is the analysis of the English textbooks of senior high schools in the Republic of China. The author understand the basic situation such as structure set, guiding ideology, content arrangement, writing intention, total number of pages through the analysis of the samples, then summarize the features of the textbooks at tha
