华 中 科 技 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 Evaluation of Respondent Consistency’s Influence on Structural Equation Modeling Results of Health Belief Model Master Candidate : Jiang Wanrong Supervisor : Associate Prof. Sun Yi ABSTRACT Objective This thesis aims to test Health Belief Model (HBM) model fit with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), with the example of analysis of predictors of medication adherence in patients with hypertension using HBM, to explore the influence of individual characteristics’ consistency of respondents on the Structural Equation Modeling results and thus to provide references on subject selection in SEM based studies. Methods One-to-one anonymous survey was carried out in conveniently selected Community Health Service (CHS) centers in Wuhan among patients with hypertension who visited the CHS centers. Database was built with EpiData 3.0, and data were entered twice. Descriptive analysis were conducted using SAS 9.2; Frequency, constituent ratio were used to describe respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics and the answers of each item in HBM. SEM using Amos 17.0 were applied to quantitatively explore the approach and magnitude of the influence of HBM dimensions on medication adherence behavior. Stratified analysis method was further applied: Respondents were stratified by age and gender, and sub-samples of 4 华 中 科 技 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 male and female as well as sub-samples of “≤ 70” and “＞70” were obtained. The SEM models with sub-samples were compared with full sample SEM models to explore the influence of age- or gender- inconsistency on the SEM results, and to explore how the health beliefs of different age and gender of patients with hypertension influence their medication adherence behavior and the magnitude of the influence. Results 499 questionnaires were distributed and 461 were effective (effective rate = %). Mean age of respondents were 70.28 (SD = 8.57), and 67.67% of them ranged from 65 to 80 years old; 58.50 % of the respondents were female;
