Surely China will become the biggest manufacturer and sales market of the world. It can be expected that global automobile companies will strategically focus on China in the next few years. The competition of China automobile market will surely become more and more intense. However, product development knowledge of China automobile companies is mostly limited to product profile design and engineering. So it is fatal to China local automobile companies which don’t have mutual launch quality control process and product development ability. It’s time for China companies to know and learn how to transfer new model from design to product process. Aim to quality control of new project launch, the background of this article is SGM participating GM global platform development. Based on SGM procedure and regulations, as well as experience and lessons learn from two years’ of global simultaneous development, I raised following process improvement: 1) Strengthen overall target of project and weaken each department requirement through benchmark management to promote quality problems solving between several departments, and promote teamwork. 2) Using “Simultaneous Engineering” and “Change Control Management” to better the quality control of new model launch. 3) Using “Stage-Gate System” method to control launch process, which means not only the vehicle quality during launch phase, a stable production system is also taken to estimated. Now the world meets the financial crisis, the world automobile industry is under revolution. I hope my article will be helpful for China automobile companies which are dedicated in new product development.
