His current research is focused on understanding the value of Big Data and learning analytics in higher education. He is also investigating theories and praxis of teaching research methodologies for Business and Academia. Abstract Institutions of higher education are operating in an increasingly complex and competi- tive environment. This paper identifies contemporary challenges facing institutions of higher education worldwide and explores the potential of Big Data in addressing these challenges. The paper then outlines a number of opportunities and challenges associ- ated with the implementation of Big Data in the context of higher education.
