Due to its own feaωres-- 也e lan伊lage should be concise，vivid and colloquia1， it demands that we should a1so use the concise，vivid and popular language in translating the subtitles from English into Chinese. However，the study on 由eEC translation of subtitles is left behind the traditiona1 studies on translation ，which is immature，as well as not theoretically systematic. The functional equivalence thωry，which is proposed and developed by Nida， the famoωtranslation 由eorist， puts more emph部is on the readers-it focus on wheth町由e target readers have 由e s创ne response towards the target text 出 the original read町s do towards the source text. Compared wi由 the traditional translation theories ，functional equivalence theory doesnt pay much attention to the equivalence between the source and target 认!ords.
