Topics will include; communication across cultures; immigration, acculturation and adaptation; working in a multi-cultural context; culture and diversity in the workplace; health interventions and political psychology. Course Objectives The course familiarizes students with applying cross-cultural psychology to different fields of life. Topics to be covered will be: Immigration, acculturation and diversity management Intercultural communication and intercultural training International personnel selection and cross-cultural transfer of tests and intervention programs Health behaviour intervention programming Organisational practices across cultures and Political psychology. Students who successfully complete PSYC 423 will be able to: 1) critically evaluate the application of cross-cultural theory and research and 2) competently identify critical issues in applying cross-cultural psychology. In addition to the lectures and readings, the reports facilitate the first objective, and the research report and essay facilitate the second. Course Structure and Content: The course is composed of: lectures led by academic staff member or graduate student introducing basic areas of knowledge articles to be read before each session according to the attached list of readings short reports research reports and group based discussions.
