Depa rtment of Surve ing Engineering, Heilongjia ng Institute of Technolog , Harbin 150040, China Abstract : A MGeoSAIL model, which is more suitable for mult-i a ngle observations, is constructed ba sed on the im- provement of the single-angle model GeoSAIL. The MGeoSAIL model combines the geometric-optica l model with the radiation transfer model. Therefore, it has the adva ntages of t he two models, which made it more accurate and practicable. The geometric-optica l model calcula tes the a mount of sha dowed and illuminated components in a scene, while the ra dia tion tra nsfer model( SAIL) calculates the reflectance and tra nsmittance of the t ree crowns. The reflecta nce of each component in a scene isweighted b its fra ct iona l area a nd summed. The simulation result showes that the MGeoSAIL model could be simple and applica ble to describe the / hot0 spot in visible a nd nea r- infra red bands, a nd the / bowl0 sha pe in the near-infra red ba nd. Furthermore, the model is demonstrated to be more suita ble in the BRDF simula tion of discontinuous and open forest wit h low densit a nd large individuals.
