This disease used to be considered prevalent only in developing countries, however, with the further study, it has been recognized that hepatitis E is a disease which shows a broad distribution worldwide and leads to serious burdens. In recent years, as reliable diagnostic reagents and a hepatitis E vaccine have been granted a marketing authorization, we are entering a new era in the research, prevention and control of hepatitis E.
