Type of class: reading-writing class
Target students: senior two students
Ⅰ.Teaching materials analysis:
This is a writing class- based on the reading from module 6, unit 4 global warming, workbook: clean up your butts and bags. This reading clearly presents one structure of a persuasive essay. In the first paragraph, the author states his point of view. Later, he starts each of the middle paragraphs with a sentence that states a point and then presents evidence to support this point. In the last paragraph, the author restates his point of view. So, one of the key and difficult point is to guide students to grasp the structure and apply it to their own writing. Besides, in order to persuade readers to agree with the the point of view, the passage adopts several tips to make the essay more convincing and persuasive. So, students will be led to take paragraph 3 as an example to analyze the tips and apply them to the writing.
Ⅱ.Students analysis:
The students are in the second grade, who are familiar with environmental protection and find it important to look after our planet. Besides, students have known something about a persuasive essay, but they do not have a clear understanding about the structure and the persuasive tips. So, in the class, students will be asked to model the structure of the reading passage and apply the tips to make the writing more persuasive.

Students are expected to know that cigarette butts and plastic bags are two of the most common and most dangerous environmental problems and the reasons behind it.
Students are expected to grasp the target words and expressions: non-renewable, recycle, be lost to, break down...

Students are expected to develop their skills of reading, such as reading for the topic sentence and reading for the detailed information.
