An elastic re- straint is set at the end of cable in axial d irection and the support translation is influenced, w hich accordingly leads to the change of vibration characteristics of cable and the damping effects are ach ieved eventually. The govern ing equation of in- plane vibration of cable- restraint system is derived by means of D. A lembert principle, and then those partial d ifferential equations are transformed into a set of ord inary d ifferential equations by Garlerkin method.
