How to make students understand it is personality that always tells the truth 教学过程 Step 1. Lead-in 1. An interview. Supposing you are the boss of a company and you need employ new workers. Make selections according to the first impressions the candidates leave on you. (Conclusion: First impressions talk.) 2. A short film Part 1. A man eats the dumplings left over by others. What do you think of him? Part 2. The man donates some money to charity career. How will you describe him now? (Conclusion: First impressions can be misleading.) Step 2. Fast-reading 1. Read the first three paragraghs and answer the five questions. 1) Where does the story take place? 2) Why did the author go there? 3) What was the last straw for her? 4) How did she react? 5) What kind of person do you think the girl singing in the library is? 2. Read the rest of the story and answer the three questions. 1) Why was Jane so upset when she got home? 2) What made Jane sigh with relief? 3) Why did Jane feel shamful and guilty then? Step 3. Careful-reading 1. Read the story carefully to underline the words and phrases describing Jane’s feelings and reactions. 2. Use the words and phrases to fill in the blanks. Learn the basic structure of a good story. 3. Discuss the questions: Did Jane overreact in the library? If you were in a similar situation, what would you do? Step 4. Emotional education What is important when dealing with others? Should we attach importance to first impressions? How can we leave good impressions on others? Step 5. A game Let’s put on Jen
