With ITS becoming smarter, as in Smart Cities and Connected Vehicles, there is an assumption that mobility is being improved for all travellers. Each ITS application has an effect on mobility, but to different degrees. Only a few applications, specifically traveller information, directly address and have the most impact on personal mobility. We need to determine if smarter ITS will increase public transport ridership, reduce road congestion and give travellers more liberty to choose how to travel. This paper identifies those technologies that are currently being used to improve mobility, the issues associated with the use of these technologies, and exemplary technology programs that focus on addressing these issues and improving mobility. Further, the future of this area is described in terms of actions that could be taken to ensure the deployment and improvement of technology. KEYWORDS: Traveller information, Mobility, Smart ITS 1.
