PAGE PAGE 11 Abstract With the acceleration of economic globalization, China's economy was keeping developing by leaps and bounds, and the economic and trade exchanges with foreign countries of China have become increasingly frequent. Economic and commercial contracts are important legal documents, and are widely used in commercial activities. However, the special characteristics of the language of business contracts pose a great challenge for the translators. It is inevitable for the translators to encounter impediment or make mistakes in the process of translation. This paper analyzes the language characteristics of English commercial contracts from the aspects of format, word and sentence pattern, studies the key points and difficulties of translation, and proposes corresponding translation strategies based on literature research method, case study method and qualitative analysis method. This study finds that it has difficulties in translating economic and trade contracts in accordance with translation theories as well as translation strategies for the uniqueness of its language characteristics. In addition, accurate understanding and conveying of original text needs to revise translation text in compliance with expressive habits of target language, which are the major obstacles of translation. This paper studies the difficulties in translating economic and trade contracts in English from the above four aspects, and puts forward four strategies which aims to improve understanding of linguistic features and ability of translating commercial contract: mastering the professional knowledge related to contracts and differences of language expression habits between Chinese and English, as well as linguistic features of economic and trade contracts, and upholding a rigorous and serious attitude.
