Methods Cryosectio of SO samples from adult guinea pigs were examined for detection of cKit and for NADPHdiaphorase by immunocytochemistry or histochemistry. Results In cross sectio, a few cKit immunopositive cells were seen in the circular smooth muscle laye of SO. The cells were spindle shape cells with two slender processes. In the longitudinal sectio, SO was composed of out wall and intraduodenal wall. The former was similar to intestinal wall and many cKit positive cells were seen in the regio of the deep muscular plexus and the myenteric plexus. Plenty of cKit positive cells and processes were found in the muscle laye of the intraduodenal wall, like intramuscular intetitial cells of Cajal (ICCIM) in the intestinal wall. On the other hand, NADPHd staining showed that a large number of NOS positive nerve fibe widely distributed in the myenteric plexus and smooth muscle laye of SO. Although no NOS reactive neuro were observed in the cKit positive cells, their cytoplasmic processes close to the NOS positive neuro were often encountered. Conclusio Our results show that ICClike cells widely existing in the SO of guinea pigs may be involved in the regulation of the autorhythm movement of SO and perhaps are the targets of NOS positive neuro mediating the motility of guinea pig SO. 【Key words】 Neuron; Sphincter of Oddi; Intetitial cells of Cajal; NADPH
