Step 1 Pre-task preparations
T and Ss do daily greeting:
Ss make daily report and introduce:

Show the word cards. Students read and act.
Sing the song of U3, 1B
Ask and answer. Ss answer with verb phrases, like: I can sing a song.
I can jump high. I can read books.
T shows some photos of 2008 Beijing Olympic Game, questions: Who is he/ she?
How old is he/ she? What can he /she do?
Ss are encouraged to talk about these famous sports stars:

He /She can swim/ run/ play football (basketball) dive Step 2 While-task procedures
Teach the words. Read the words: play, run, sleep, swim.
*Pay attention to the pronunciation of ‘play, swim’
Find the common things. Ss tell their favorite athletes and find their common ability: I like Liu Xiang. He can run. I can run, too.
Say a rhyme:

Teacher says an animal. T: You are a fish/ bird etc. Students should answer quickly what it can do.
