HP has been in the networking business for much of its history as a company. It has a long list of networking innovations to its credit. Perhaps the most significant was the invention and standardization of Ethernet on unshielded twisted pair（UTP）that became 10Base-T. More than any other evolution of Ethernet, 10Base-T made possible the ultimate domination of Ethernet as the networking technology for LANs. Since the first 10Base-T products began shipping in early 1990, Ethernet has “rolled over” Arcnet, Token Ring, FDDI, and ATM. There are no challengers today or for the foreseeable future.
