After this class, students are expected to:
1. understand the target language points and know how to apply them by eliciting their collocations;
2. understand the introduction of mysteries by comprehending the video about four natural phenomena;
3. analyze and summarize four unsolved mysteries;
4. fully activate learning schema about “the unknown”and get well-prepared for the unit.

Guess the meaning of the title of the unit;
Brainstorm the “unknown”.
Activate Ss’ knowledge background (language knowledge general knowledge) about the theme .

Introduce the topics of the 7 periods in the unit in general.
Further engage Ss to brainstorm related ideas;
Fully activate Ss’ schemata about the theme;
Help Ss generally understand the unit and get well-prepared.

Read and clarify the meanings of the key words and expressions, which would be applied in the period and the unit.
Elicit some collocations and example sentences of the words in various contexts.
