They usually play a role in deciding the winner. play a role 固定表达，意思为“在……之中起重要作用、 扮演重要角色”。后面经常接in，由于in是介词，后要加 doing的形式。 　play the role of… 表示“扮演……的角色”。 e.g. I have to?play?the?role?of?a mother to look after my sisters. 我不得不扮演母亲的角色照顾我的妹妹们。;3.
